I drop in once in a while. It never disappoints. The sushi is consistently fresh. The service is good while not being annoyingly attentive. They have a very good and well priced lunch menu. Tsuru is the best place in this area to have good QUALITY sushi. The rest don't reach their level, the few others around here are simply bad, too much mushy rice or soggy seaweed. Tsuru gets it right.

Karaage is the perfect crunch! Not too greasy, not too soggy, perfect consistency. just perfect. We were going to each have a dragon roll but John said to do a Badass roll instead and I'm sooo glad we did. Next time we want to eat the E 14th roll to honor this small biz being around for 25 years Oh yeah and service was impeccable

Tsuru Sushi is a San Leandro staple and has been here since I've first moved to this city back in 1997. They have a variety of items and specials and the prices are reasonable given inflation. My favorite seat in the house is at the chef's table where you get to see them whip out the delicious rolls in front of you. Norman and Stanley are so sweet and they are such a joy to be around every time we dine at Tsuru. Whatever you order, you'll always get a cup of hot tea and juicy orange slices as you pay. My personal favorites are the aburi (smoked) samon that comes in 2 and worth every penny, and the Badass roll.

Recently whilst in the Bay Area, I was in need of some comfort food and at first I was going to drive to North Oakland to a Japanese restaurant that I frequented years ago then I came across Tsuru, in San Leandro, CA, which was much closer to where I was lodging. For me, the atmosphere was very tranquil and therapeutic which was perfect for my lite afternoon snack. I was able to peacefully enjoy my iso soup before my Bento Box arrived which consisted of Salmon Teriyaki, Tempura & 3 Piece California Roll and salad and of course, a large Kirin Ichiban beer for digestive purposes. As I was about to leave, I received a call from my cousin to bring home some East 14th rolls, prawn tempura, tobiko, avocado & spicy sauce. Tobiko was new to me which is a type of caviar made from flying fish eggs. Well, I do declare that I thoroughly enjoyed my culinary experience at Tsuru and will definitely be back in the near future to try some of the delectable delights that I eyeballed on the menu
